Yeah, I think being a woman in the world the lived in and with the reputation she had made her much more aware, much earlier, of how badly this all could end. (Interestingly, I think that James, as a social-climbing lower-class man who isn't straight, also had a similar view, it was just blinkered by the mad rush of falling in love. Miranda's been in love with Thomas for years; she can see beyond and around it, by now.)
You know, it never really occurs to me to put meta on ao3; I think of it so firmly as a fic archive. I know they've been encouraging tumblr folk to archive fannish writing of all sorts over there, though, so I should consider it.
