She uses Foucault quite a bit; both to frame her argument within and to argue against. She definitely subscribes to Foucault's basic ideas, that is, but also criticizes his extremely narrow, European lens in Discipline & Punish, particularly his exclusion of slavery and the greater networks of empire, and shows the ways in which (she thinks that) Foucault's ideas have to be altered to fit the historical realities of slavery and imperialism.
